Overnight Protein Oats

overnight protein oats, oatmeal, make ahead oatmeal, healthy breakfast ideas

My weekly rotation of meal prep always includes a batch of overnight oats. I used to loathe the thought of cold oats, but I realized I could simply heat them up in the micro for a few and enjoy them warm and gooey. I make 7 for the week and I truly never tire of them! The options of add ins are endless: berries, honey, yogurt, chocolate chip, raisins - to name a few. This recipe is very forgiving and can easily be adjusted for preference. It’s packed with protein, fiber, omegas and is very filling! My go to recipe:

Ingredients for 1 serving:

  • 1/2 cup Gluten Free, Organic Oats

  • 1 tbsp chia seeds

  • 1 tbsp hemp hearts

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 scoop of any flavored protein powder - I love EquipFoods (use code THEWELLNESSZENA for 15% off)

  • almond milk or water

  • scoop of your favorite nut butter

Directions:

  • Simple mix all the dry ingredients into a mason jar or small glass dish, and then slowly add enough water until mixture is covered.

  • Let it sit in refrigerator until you are ready to eat! I take it out in the morning and then add a scoop of nut butter before I heat it up!

A moment for the nerd in me….

Why organic and gluten free? Oats are heavily sprayed with pesticides! Another good tip is to rinse them before consuming. So this way I reduce the pesticide exposure and I try to do things GF.

Hemp Hearts- I love them because they not only contain protein, they are loaded with vitamins and minerals, fiber, antioxidants, & heart healthy omegas and boost benefits like anti inflammatory response, digestive health, blood sugar maintenance, weight management and brings on feelings of satiety.

Chia Seeds- similar properties to hemp hearts - with slightly different ratios and also help with hydration, bone health, skin health and aide in weight loss.

Cinnamon- reduces inflammation, improves heart health, helps regulate blood sugar, antioxidant, boosts brain function and tastes yummy!

You could even half the recipe and put in small mason jars for the kiddos! Pairs perfectly with a side of fruit for a quick morning breakfast!

Give it a try and let me know if you love it!

xo,

Steph
